Early Struggles and Entrepreneurial Spirit

Mr. Chan Kok Long’s journey began with a profound goal – to provide a better life for his parents. Armed with a scholarship from BP, he entered the sales arena. The Asian financial crisis in 1997 posed financial challenges, leading him to venture into entrepreneurship to overcome debts.

Recognizing the demand for affordable international calls, Chan’s entrepreneurial spirit led to the establishment of a network of dealerships selling international calling cards, laying the groundwork for his future journeys.

Enter iPay88

The internet’s growing significance led Chan to create a digital magazine, movile88.com. Recognizing the potential for online sales of prepaid cards, he conceptualized the idea of a payment gateway. In 2006, iPay88 was incorporated, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of digital payments in Malaysia.

iPayy88’s strong presence in South Asia, including Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Bangladesh, and Singapore, underscores its commitment to creating a borderless payment ecosystem through strategic partnerships.

Recognitions/Awards

Chan’s impactful contributions have earned him accolades, including the Technopreneur Excellence Award at the PIKOM ICT Leadership Award (PILA) in 2016. Recognized as one of the Top Nominees for EY Entrepreneur Year 2016 in the Emerging Entrepreneur category, he solidified his position as a leader in the e-commerce industry.

Chan’s influence extends to the academic space, where he serves as an Adjunct Professor at the National University of Malaya. As a council member of the PayNet Advisory Forum, he continues to contribute valuable insights to the fintech industry.

Jaghjeet Liew, a current student at Xiamen University Malaysia, is making waves with his music that echoes across various musical genres. He is known for his soulful renditions of pop, rock, and jazz numbers that hold audiences spellbound. One of his memorable performances includes a rendition of “海阔天空“ by Beyond, which has the crowd roaring with cheers at Artbox Arcadia 2023.

A Childhood Steeped in Music

Jaghjeet’s love for music was ignited during his primary school years. His dedication to singing during these formative years helped establish the foundation for his ongoing musical aspirations, characterized by his adaptability and desire to explore various genres.

Inspiration from Jason Zhang 张杰

At the heart of Jaghjeet’s musical inspiration lies Jason Zhang 张杰, a renowned singer whose performance of the song “你就不要想起我” left an indelible mark on the aspiring artist. The emotional depth displayed by Zhang became a guiding force, shaping Jaghjeet’s approach to singing.

Expressing his admiration, Jaghjeet said, “I admire his on-stage performance and also his singing technique. He managed to bring tears to me, and from then I realized this is what you need to do while singing – to sing into the audience’s heart. It is the hardest thing to do but seems to be the greatest thing to achieve.”

A Melodious Symphony of Diverse Performances

Over the years, Jaghjeet has showcased his musical talent in various settings, such as weddings and singing competitions. His impressive performances include sound tests for contests, TCM student union camp events, the Buddhist society’s mooncake festival, and XMUM concerts. Despite participating in singing competitions in the past, Jaghjeet’s primary focus now lies in delivering heartfelt performances that connect deeply with the audience.

Sharing his aspirations, Jaghjeet shared, “I’ve performed in various settings, and what I mostly attend now is for performance only. I will be quite excited and hope to get a chance to join any singing competition in the future.”

In 2019, Jaghjeet achieved a notable milestone in his career, clinching the title in the Sabah State Hakka Song Competition. This prestigious win not only highlighted his musical prowess but also strengthened his presence in the local music industry.

Park at the nearest car parks – The Pinnacle Sunway, Menara Sunway, Sunway Geo, BRT Sunway Depot, Sunway University – and use park and ride BRT or follow the canopy walk.

By Train

On LRT, take the Kelana Jaya Line to USJ 7 station and interchange with BRT to Sunway Lagoon station. Alternatively, on KTM, take the Komuter Port Klang Line to Setia Jaya station and interchange with BRT to Sunway Lagoon station.
